One vendor (Presenter, S10) advised caution with tile products not engineered for northern winter climates and recommended verifying glazing and tile makeup for freeze-thaw durability. The contractors offered preliminary ballpark figures and noted that a designer shingle approach could cost roughly $6.7 million in a quoted example (vendor caveated as a ballpark), with composite and true-tile options likely higher once structural and engineering requirements are factored.
The board asked vendors to provide comparable written bids, consistent product specifications and any necessary engineering measurements so the county can compare like-for-like proposals. Vendors recommended either phased work using lifts to minimize scaffolding or full scaffolding for larger, contiguous repairs, and suggested an engineering verification step (measured plans or a partial payment to obtain exact measurements) before final pricing.
County staff said they would standardize the bid specifications and require multiple vendors to price the same scope to ensure fair comparison before seeking bond or budget options. No procurement or financing decisions were made at the meeting.
