Delegate Gary Simmons presented HB 15-05 to the Appropriations Committee, saying the bill would extend the Maryland Police Officers and Probation Agents Scholarship Program and the loan assistance repayment program to correctional officers. "This bill expands ... to include correctional officers ensuring that they have access to the same educational opportunities and loan repayment assistance currently available to police officers and probation agents," Simmons said.
Simmons framed the bill as promoting equity and consistency across the public-safety workforce and urged the committee to report the bill favorably. The committee heard no witnesses in opposition, and the hearing concluded with no questions from members recorded.
