The Siren School District board approved routine benefits renewals and authorized an outside audit engagement during its regular meeting.
Board members voted to accept a dental-plan renewal that includes a 20¢ per-employee increase and an added special-health-needs benefit. A motion to retain the district’s current health-insurance plan also passed; the superintendent clarified the 6.9% increase applies to the district’s cost side, not directly to employees’ premiums.
On auditing, the superintendent reported negotiating CISA’s engagement for the remainder of the fiscal-year audit, reducing the projected days from an initial 20 to 18 and noting a roughly $1,400 increase in expected cost. The board authorized the district to use CISA for the current fiscal year’s audit and to continue discussions about whether to post the position internally in the future.
Board members asked procedural questions about checks and balances, how external auditors might streamline certain processes, and whether audit staffing might alternate between auditors. The board approved the CISA engagement by motion.
