Board adopts alternate accountability model for Rosenwald center, approves transfers and instructional purchase

The Catawba County Board of Education unanimously approved a set of administrative items including an alternate accountability model for Rosenwald Education Center, student transfer dates for the 2026-27 school year, and a purchase of instructional materials.

Lee Miller presented the recommended Option B for the Rosenwald Education Center under the state's alternate-school accountability system. He described Option B's weighting: 20% student persistence (continuation through the school year), 20% school achievement (end-of-grade and course tests, ACT/workkeys, graduation measures and course rigor), and 60% school growth calculated in the state's growth model. "We would like to propose to the board, option b," Miller said; the board approved the recommendation by unanimous raised hands.

Dan Moore recommended the 2026-27 student transfer calendar: open out-of-district transfer requests on June 1, close requests July 31 and require out-of-county student tuition payment by Monday, Aug. 10. The board approved the dates without objection.

Miller also presented a Curriculum Associates quote to purchase the I-Ready math toolbox for 13 elementary schools at $53,414.40; he said 11 schools used the toolbox this year and two additional schools might adopt it later. The board approved the quote unanimously.

Each action was procedural and approved by the attending board members; staff will proceed with implementation steps and any necessary notifications to administrators and parents.
