The Catawba County Board of Education on Monday unanimously acknowledged receipt of a Catawba County Board of Commissioners resolution that lays out a plan to merge Catawba County Schools, Hickory City Schools and Newton Conover City Schools.
Chair said the board had received the document and called for a motion to record receipt; a board member moved that the board acknowledge receipt and the motion passed by unanimous hand raise. Chair noted the commissioners had approved the merger plan by a 3-2 vote the prior week.
Board members did not debate or take further action on the plan during the meeting. The acknowledgment records that the board received the commissioners' resolution; it does not represent a decision by the board to endorse or implement the merger.
The board scheduled a short break and planned to go into closed session later in the evening for attorney-client and personnel matters.
