Fremont City Schools board approves new instructional materials, names Erin Parker HR director

At last night’s board of education meeting, the Fremont City Schools board approved new instructional materials for the upcoming school year and appointed Erin Parker as the district’s director of human resources and community relations, a Fremont City Schools presenter said.

The presenter said school counselors “are extremely fortunate to have a counselor available to our students throughout every stage of their academic pathway,” and described the district’s counseling program as supporting students in grades PK–12 with academic achievement, social and emotional development and career planning.

The presenter announced the board approved new instructional materials to be put into place for the upcoming school year (the transcript reads “02/2627,” which appears to be a transcription error and is reported here as “upcoming school year” because the meeting materials were not provided in the transcript). This approval was stated by the presenter as a board action; the transcript does not record a roll-call or vote tally.

The board also approved Erin Parker to serve as the district’s next director of human resources and community relations. The presenter said Parker “currently serves the district as the principal of Fremont Middle School” and will replace Susan King, who has been with the district since 1996.

The presenter noted that Ohio School Board Association representative Marty Rothy attended the meeting to celebrate Tom Price. The presenter said Price “has served the community as a Fremont Board of Education member for 10 years,” supported three superintendents — Dr. Tracy McCarty, Mr. John Detwiler and the presenter — and led the district through the COVID pandemic and the construction of five new buildings.
