The City of Aberdeen council voted to approve the purchase of a Pierce Enforcer heavy-duty rescue pumper from McQueen Emergency Group for $1,238,000 to replace a 2008 Spartan apparatus.
Chief Weig introduced the request and Battalion Chief JR Heidner described the need: crews now use apparatus for all-hazard response including firefighting, emergency medical service, hazardous-materials response and technical rescue. Heidner said older trucks have obsolete components and that uniformity across apparatus improves training and operational efficiency. "This request is to purchase a rescue pumper that is identical to rescue 2...we're trying to get uniformity, consistency," Heidner said.
Council discussed long manufacturer lead times; staff estimated a 4–5 year build and delivery. Council moved and adopted the purchase on a roll-call vote. The purchase was included in the capital improvement plan and staff said budget projections cover cost by the time of delivery. The council recorded the affirmative votes and the motion carried.
