The McAllen City Commission issued a proclamation recognizing National Travel and Tourism Week, with Mayor Pro Tem Sabi Haddad reading the declaration on behalf of the mayor and commission.
Representatives from Visit McAllen thanked city leadership and hospitality partners for supporting the local tourism economy. A Visit McAllen representative said, “travel and tourism powers our economy,” and reported that travel to McAllen in 2025 generated about $800,000,000 in direct visitor spending and supported roughly 7,200 jobs locally. The representative added that Visit McAllen hosted 33 conferences with an economic impact of over $7,000,000 and 13 sports events with an economic impact of over $22,000,000 this year.
Rick Guerra, speaking as a long-time chamber and hospitality member, said the chamber’s outreach to Mexico and other regional partners helped put McAllen ‘‘on the map’’ as a destination and urged continued partnership between the city and hospitality industry.
The proclamation was ceremonial and required no formal action by the commission.
