Commissioners approve resolution to pursue flood-warning-siren planning funds under SB3
Summary
The court approved a resolution authorizing the judge to be the county's representative to accept advance planning funds from the Texas Water Development Board under Senate Bill 3 for countywide siren planning and public input on siting.
County staff told the court the Texas Water Development Board has requested a resolution naming the judge as the authorized representative to enter into an agreement for a flood-warning-siren planning grant under Senate Bill 3. Staff said the board will provide advance funds to begin planning and engineering and to facilitate countywide public meetings to evaluate siren locations.
Carl Nestor recommended the court approve the resolution and authorize Judge Bates to sign and send it to the Texas Water Development Board so planning and preliminary engineering can begin. The court moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote.
Staff said the planning process will include public input on potential siren locations, use of flood-plain maps and engineering scoping to identify where warning sirens would provide the best coverage.
