Benton City Council recorded several formal actions June 3 across resolutions and land‑use items.
Fireworks: The council approved Resolution 2025-26 authorizing the mayor to sign a promotional-services agreement with the Benton City Lions Club to support the city’s July 4 fireworks show; the club’s event coordinator requested a $6,000 city donation during public comment and staff confirmed permit and insurance requirements would be handled.
Purchasing cooperatives: Council approved Resolution 2025-27 and Resolution 2025-28 to allow the city to participate in two purchasing cooperatives (including the King County Directors Association co-op and a national co-op). Staff said the co-ops cost the city no membership fee and give greater buying power and vendor options for items such as playground equipment.
Climate resiliency plan: Council adopted Resolution 2025-29, approving the city’s climate resiliency plan. Staff told the council the plan was funded through the Department of Commerce and must be adopted before the funding period ends to secure reimbursements.
Preliminary plats: For preliminary plat PP-25-02 (Helario Zaragoza) the council voted to set the matter for a closed-record hearing to address river-front and floodplain concerns and to provide the required notice and additional review. For preliminary plat PP-24-03 (Rud McClory) the council approved the preliminary plat to subdivide roughly 13.27 acres into 46 lots after staff said comments (including from Benton PUD and state wildlife/archaeology agencies) would be addressed during final-plat review.
Each resolution and plat action was moved, seconded and passed on voice vote; details and conditions will be incorporated into agreements, permits or future hearings as appropriate.
