Resident tells board he wants front-yard land returned after cul-de-sac dispute

Mount Pleasant — During the public-comment period resident James Coutts of 6812 Greenridge Drive urged the village to resolve a long-running dispute over a cul-de-sac that he says occupies his front yard.
Coutts said his family bought the property in 2019 and that successive changes have left a cul-de-sac where his front yard should be; he said the village sent a letter from an attorney offering to purchase the land for a nominal sum, and that he engaged an attorney in response. Coutts said the village later placed a sewer line on the south side of the road and that he has repeatedly sought meetings to address the claim to his front yard.
"I want my front yard or I will remove the asphalt that's on that property of mine that I own and I pay taxes on," Coutts said, urging trustees to set up a meeting so he can present documents and resolve the issue. He asked the board to review historic deeds and to meet with him to determine what steps are necessary to restore his property.
The board did not record a direct response on the record during the meeting; the president thanked Coutts for his comments and the public-comment period concluded.
