Fox River Grove trustees approve low‑speed scooter rules; board backs several zoning and text amendments

After public comment in which resident Kyle Platt urged allowing scooters on bike paths (but not on sidewalks) and limiting road use to routes other than Route 14 and Route 22, Administrator Soderholm presented a draft ordinance covering speed and use. Village President Marc McLaughlin suggested lowering the proposed 35 mph threshold to 30 mph to match village speed limits. Trustee Devin Hester moved to approve the draft ordinance with the speed lowered to 30 mph; Trustee Kirsten Wall seconded and the motion passed on a roll call vote with all trustees recorded as 'yes.'
On zoning matters, the Planning & Zoning Commission had recommended a special use for a shipping container at Norge Ski Club, 100 Ski Hill Road, limited to merchandise sales and with no electricity. Scott Smith, representing Norge Ski Club, told the board the container would replace two dilapidated wood buildings near the entrance. Trustees voted to recommend staff draft an ordinance approving the special use; the roll call vote was unanimous.
Trustees also approved a text amendment to modernize the village business use table, last updated in 1998, and agreed to change cannabis dispensaries from "special use" to "permitted" in appropriate business zones. Trustee Jennifer Curtiss moved to approve the draft text amendment and Trustee Devin Hester seconded; roll call was unanimous.
Routine items on the consent agenda—including May 6 meeting minutes, accounts payable for May 20, and park permit/sound permit fee waivers for Cary‑Grove AMVETS—were approved by a unanimous roll call vote earlier in the meeting.
