Council affirms mayor’s appointment of Michael A. Kenny Jr. as law director and police prosecutor

Wickliffe City Council on April 27 unanimously affirmed Mayor Sakas’s appointment of Michael A. Kenny Jr. as the city’s law director and police prosecutor, effective May 9.

The mayor announced the pick during his opening remarks, saying the appointment will take effect after the outgoing director’s final day. “I would like to appoint Michael A. Kenny Jr. as the law director and police prosecutor for the City of Wickliffe, Ohio, effective 05/09/2026,” the mayor told the council and public prior to the vote.

Outgoing law director Jeremy (addressing council) said the April 27 meeting would be his last and thanked council and staff for the opportunity to serve. “I just wanted to sincerely thank everybody and let everybody know I really appreciated and enjoyed working with every single one of you,” he said, adding he would be available as a resource through his transition.

Councilman [mover] made the motion to reaffirm the mayor’s appointment and a second followed; the council then took a roll-call vote and carried the motion. Council members welcomed Mr. Kenny after the vote.

The council also introduced and later adopted an ordinance confirming the appointment and authorizing compensation, which the council placed on final reading and approved during the meeting.

Next steps: Mr. Kenny’s appointment becomes effective on May 9, after which he will assume the duties described in the adopted ordinance.
