Council recommends engineering review for raised crosswalk near Plain City Elementary

Councilors reviewed multiple options to address speeds near Plain City Elementary, including replacing the temporary speed hump, building a raised crosswalk/table, installing a three-way stop, or narrowing lanes and adding bike lanes. The village engineer provided pros and cons for each option and recommended further study.
A council member summarized the options and recommended a raised crosswalk as the preferred approach, noting it may be more attractive and long-lasting but could require engineering to address drainage and cost. "It is the most probably the most expensive option because it might cause drainage issues," the council member said, and recommended exploring tying the work to the village’s paving program to reduce costs.
Councilors asked about construction timing and traffic disruption; staff said they would aim to complete work after school is out and possibly schedule the crosswalk as part of paving work to minimize impacts. Council asked public works to get a cost estimate and schedule from the engineer and report back.
Separately, council later approved Resolution 16-2026 making the intersection of Lantern Lane and Dove Street a three-way stop and authorizing traffic-control devices.
