Council amends Salary Ordinance to set Superior Court 1 office manager pay retroactively

The Hendricks County Council on March 17 approved an amendment to the Salary Ordinance to set the hourly rate for an office manager in Superior Court 1 at $40.39, retroactive to the employee’s February start date.
Judge Kate Kuehn of Superior Court 1 asked the council to raise the returning office manager’s pay to match office manager pay in other courts. Dave Cox moved to amend the Salary Ordinance to include the $40.39 rate retroactively; Larry Hesson seconded. The motion passed 5‑2, with Eric Wathen and Nancy Marsh recorded as opposed. Nancy Marsh said she opposed because she feared the action would set a precedent.
Separately, Auditor Ann Stark noted that assessor certification supplemental pay lines had been omitted from Exhibit A of the Salary Ordinance and requested an amendment. Legal Counsel Rhonda Cook indicated prepared language needs updates and the item was tabled; Dave Wyeth moved to table and Dave Cox seconded. The table‑motion passed 7‑0 and the corrected amendment will be presented in April.
