The Tullahoma Area Economic Development Corporation presented its annual report to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on April 27 and asked the city for three targeted FY27 investments totaling $33,000 to strengthen business recruitment and workforce development.
The presenter, identified in the record as a TAEDC representative, said the agencyis focused on recruiting employers, retaining existing industry and aligning workforce pipelines to meet local demand. "Everything that you're going to hear tonight ties back to one central objective and that's growing Tullahoma's tax base by strengthening our ability to recruit, retain and expand business," the presenter said.
The TAEDC representative outlined three budget priorities: a digital recruitment infrastructure (a website overhaul and recruitment collateral), placements in targeted industry publications and access to Next Move market-data tools for childcare, housing and workforce planning. The presentation included policy context on incentives and partnerships and noted that TAEDC recently recertified the Tullahoma Airport Business Park for the Tennessee site program and is engaging with an aerospace-related prospect.
As part of the workforce discussion, the presenter said the city faces a childcare shortfall of about 500 slots that is constraining labor-force participation and employer recruitment. "Childcare is workforce infrastructure," the presenter said, urging coordination with state and federal funding opportunities to close the gap.
The presentation also reviewed TAEDCefforts on retail recruitment, partnerships with Retail Strategies and work to proactively market commercial spaces tied to the Summerland mixed-use development, where the subdivision plat has been approved and the developersite plan is pending.
The TAEDC representative closed by connecting the three budget requests to measurable recruitment outcomes and said the investments are intended as targeted capacity building rather than general spending. The board thanked the presenter and moved on to the next agenda item.
The board did not take a final vote on the TAEDC budget request at the meeting; the request was presented as part of the agencyannual report and will be considered through the city's normal budget process.
