Syracuse Wawasee Trails secures county backing on grant application, readies design and wayfinding

Tracy Ford, speaking for Syracuse Wawasee Trails, told the Kosciusko County Parks Board the group secured the county's support to act as the governmental applicant for an EDI grant and has moved the Wawasee South Phase 1 project toward construction readiness.
"We were able to partner with the county commissioners this week and gain their support to serve as a governmental entity for us to apply for an EDI grant," Ford said. She said the project team has completed 40% of the initial design for the 1.1-mile Phase 1 corridor along State Road 13 south of Syracuse and is working with USI on the next design round to reach 100% and bid-ready status.
Ford also described a separate wayfinding and signage project: the group contracted Graycraft to produce signage to be installed across the county's roughly 12 miles of existing trail in early spring. She noted the group is awaiting outcomes on other grant applications (CAP and ITP) and that the design and signage work will help position the corridor for competitive funding.
Ford said Syracuse Wawasee Trails will host a fundraiser on Aug. 6 and will share upcoming event dates with board members. The board thanked Ford and encouraged continued coordination with county staff as design and bidding proceed.
