Valley View board spotlights students and staff: JROTC, Raiders, bowling, FCCLA and reading champions

The board opened the recognitions with a spotlight on paraprofessional Martin Baney of McGee Elementary in honor of Paraprofessional Appreciation Month; Baney described techniques for encouraging nonverbal students and said life‑skills instruction can be as important as academics.
District athletic and activity achievements that the board recognized included: • Middle‑school and elementary participation in the district’s bowling program, which this year included 40 athletes and 11 state qualifiers; several individual results were named (for example, Devin Kirkland finished fourth at state). • Battle of the Books elementary champions including Bridal Kansara and Linnea Pavlik. • FCCLA state medalists (noted winners included Lloyd Jackson, Abigail Lehi and Jenna Jarmus). • Romeoville JROTC placed second at the national Marine Corps JROTC competition, according to Master Ghani, who thanked the board and community for trip support and read the cadet roster. • The Raider team’s head coach, First Sergeant Efren Casas, described competing at Fort Knox in multiple events and recognized cadets who received certificates.
