The committee recommendation followed a presentation by the project team and city staff outlining a plan to replace the more-than-100‑year‑old bridge with a modern structural system wrapped in a historically sympathetic façade, shift the alignment east onto Mayo Island so construction can proceed without fully closing the existing bridge, and provide two vehicular lanes, two bike lanes and wider sidewalks. The presenter said the project is currently estimated at about $181,000,000 with roughly $90,000,000 identified in funding.
