Students present Illinois Coal & Communities project; board recognizes swimmer headed to Lewis University

During the April 13 meeting, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jason Blume introduced student presentations and recognitions. High school students Kennedie and Kai provided an update on the Illinois Coal & Communities Listening Project, reporting the collection of nearly 50 oral histories and the creation of a photo essay and documentary; staff and students invited the public to a screening on May 16.
Jason Blume also relayed Coach Shields’ remarks about his son Bo’s development on the swim team. Bo told the board he plans to attend Lewis University to study nursing and intends to continue in athletics and academics. Dr. Blume thanked Skyward specialist Debby Kirker for her work on backend processes ahead of a system transition next school year.
The board congratulated the students and staff for their contributions. The recognitions were part of the meeting’s awards and recognitions segment and required no formal action.
