Curriculum: The board approved requests to redesignate a Ventura High School journalism course as an A–G b (English) credit and approved an advanced journalism honors designation. Trustees said the redesignations will allow students to earn an additional English credit while preserving elective journalism offerings; both votes were unanimous (5–0).
Labor MOU: Trustees approved a memorandum of understanding with VESPA and VUEA that clarifies schedule-compliance adjustments linked to expanded state programs such as universal TK and ELOP. The item passed unanimously (5–0).
Facilities and contracts: Staff presented multiple roof replacement bids and recommended phased awards. The board approved the Atlas project (including a discussion about treating Portable D as a separate add‑alternate) on a 3–2 vote after debate over timing and the risk of spending bond funds on properties that may be considered in the school-closure process. Several other roof replacements were deferred or failed for lack of motion. The board also approved contracts exceeding $25,000 after removing items tied to projects not proceeding; that consent passed 5–0.
Consent calendar and closing: Trustees approved the consent calendar and several routine items and extended the meeting to complete business. The meeting adjourned following a series of unanimous procedural votes.
