Organizers and parents gathered at Lanier Land Park in Forsyth County to mark the Miracle League's twentieth anniversary, praising the community program for expanding recreational access and social development for children with disabilities.
"We are celebrating our players, our coaches, and all of the great volunteers that we have coming out," the Presenter said, noting the milestone and the program's growth to serve more than 150 children in the area.
A resident and parent who identified her daughter Libby as a participant described measurable social gains after three seasons with the Miracle League. "Because of Miracle League, we see our daughter becoming more interactive with other children," the Resident (Parent) said, adding that Libby benefits from exposure to peer models she does not regularly have in her classroom.
Another resident emphasized the program's community-building role. "So we've built a community through Miracle League," the Resident said, pointing to friendships and wider family connections that have developed around the league.
A Staff member who spoke on behalf of county parks described the Miracle League as a valued component of Forsyth County's therapeutic recreation offerings. "We're blessed to have a great relationship with the Miracle League program here in Forsyth County. Steve Kirby and his team and all the volunteers ... just put on a great program here at Lanier Land Park," the Staff member said, adding that the county aims to make recreation accessible to all families in the parks system.
Speakers credited volunteers and partner organizations for supporting the program but did not specify funding sources or budget amounts.
