"It requires the consumer to continue getting notice of the data breach, but then it also makes that notice go to the Department of Justice," the sponsor said, noting the change will help the state monitor where breaches are occurring and how often.
Committee members generally welcomed the proposal as a useful oversight tool in the face of increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. After brief questions and no remote public commenters on this item, Representative Will Santon moved to release the bill; Representative Gorman seconded. The clerk recorded five affirmative votes and stated the motion carried. The committee released HB 381 from committee and staff will report the bill out on the legislative website.
