Highcrest students showcase art at board meeting; district teams advance in Science Olympiad

Principal Anthony Haddock introduced Highcrest Middle School student artists at the board meeting on March 23 as part of Youth Art Month. Students from Highcrest spoke briefly about their pieces and the board thanked them, presenting a small token of appreciation.
A student who introduced herself as Sydney said she was "really proud" of her art piece; other students named Maylyn, Catherine Farrell and Eden described their favorite techniques and details. Principal Haddock said the artwork in the boardroom represents kindergarten through sixth-grade student work on display during March to emphasize the value of art education.
Separately, Dr. Cremascoli reported on the district's Science Olympiad results: the varsity team earned medals in 19 of 23 events and ranked fourth overall; the junior varsity blue team earned medals in 16 events and ranked first overall; junior varsity yellow ranked third. The varsity team qualified to attend the state tournament April 18 at the University of Illinois.
The board expressed appreciation for both the student artists and the coaches and encouraged a follow-up report after the state competition.
