The City of Alpine Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously voted April 27, 2006 to recommend that the City Council approve an ordinance to rezone the property at 901 East Gallego from R-4 (mixed residential) to C-1 (neighborhood commercial). The recommendation was read into the record by the city staff and advanced to a voice vote after discussion.
City staff told commissioners that mailed notices were sent to addresses within 200 feet as required and that no feedback or objections had been received. Commissioners described the site as contiguous with existing commercial zoning and suitable for a commercial use, with one commissioner saying the location was "a great location" for commercial development.
The ordinance was read on the record (identified in the meeting transcript as ordinance 20260501); the commission discussed standard findings of fact, severability, effective date and proper-notice clauses included in the draft. No public commenters offered objections during the public hearing portion of the item.
Following discussion the commission proceeded to a voice vote and the chair noted the recommendation appeared unanimous. The matter will move to the City Council for final action; the commission’s recommendation is advisory pending the council’s decision.
