Jackson Council adopts three ordinances on code, council operations and property maintenance

The Jackson Township Council on Feb. 10 adopted three ordinances after holding required second readings and public hearings. With no members of the public speaking on the items, the council approved:
- Ordinance 20 26 0 1: creating a new township code chapter (second reading and adoption). - Ordinance 20 26 0 2: amending chapter 2-45 of the township code (second reading and adoption). - Ordinance 20 26 0 3: amending chapter 2-44 (land use and property maintenance) (second reading and adoption).
Council President Bernstein explained that the measures were collaborative efforts intended to clarify code enforcement and property maintenance responsibilities. He said the changes respond to prior feedback and aim to give the township clearer tools to require compliance and maintenance.
Clerk Sandra Martin opened the hearings and recorded roll-call votes; council members voted to adopt the ordinances during the meeting's legislative session. Council members thanked staff and volunteers for preparing the materials.
The council noted related action items later on the consent agenda, including funding authorizations for an Environmental Resource Inventory (ERI) and capital purchases related to public safety.
Next steps: each ordinance will be posted for public notice per municipal requirements and schedule any required administrative implementation work with the township administration and relevant departments.
