Staff updated commissioners on the final report for the historic water filtration plant restoration and the attached grant reimbursement process. The city received a $200,000 State Historic Preservation Office grant and supplemented the project with RDA funds; staff reported about $90,000 of the original $500,000 scope remained unspent and would revert to the RDA if unused.
Commissioner (speaker 6) asked specifically about brick repointing work that SHPO had not approved because of the materials used. Staff said the repointing was carried out but not to SHPO standards and that Public Works and SHPO will consult about remediating or redoing that element. "It was done but not to SHPO's standards because of the material used," staff said; the work will be monitored and may require rework to meet SHPO requirements before full reimbursement can be finalized.
Commissioners discussed lighting proposals intended to highlight the building for Preservation Day and the possibility of including before/after displays during tours. Staff said they will provide photographs and a summary of the improvements at upcoming public events and will coordinate with Public Works and SHPO on any required remedial work to qualify for grant reimbursement.
