The Beaufort County Planning Commission voted to approve a petition to rename Joey Dobbs Road as Blue Heron Lane after staff confirmed the petition met the 51% signature threshold and E911 had vetted the proposed name for duplication.
Resident petitioner Jessica Gonan, who said she owns three properties on the road, told the commission the name had originally been Oak Road and was later changed to Joey Dobbs Road; she said relatives of the person previously associated with the name did not object. Commissioners noted that E911 and the post office would be notified to update addressing records.
A motion to approve staff’s recommendation to change the name to Blue Heron Lane was moved and seconded; the commission voted unanimously to approve the renaming.
