A member of the public asked the Crawford County Board of Commissioners at its April 17 meeting when proposed zoning regulations would be presented for adoption; county staff said late May is the expected timeframe and that the next formal step would be an application to the Planning and Zoning Board.
Resident Rick Elnicki told the board he had been told by Zoning Administrator May Smith that regulations would be presented to the commissioners by the end of May and asked if that matched the commissioners’ understanding. Commissioner Bruce Blair said that sounds about right but was not certain, and County Counselor Jim Emerson said the timing and next procedural step depend on the completed zoning regulations and comprehensive plan; Emerson said Mr. Joshua Albin handles the zoning work and will join Tuesday’s meeting by Zoom to clarify timing.
Commissioner Carl Wood requested a 10-minute closed executive session for legal advice regarding zoning under the attorney–client exception, K.S.A. 75-4319(b)(2); the board recessed and then reconvened at 10:52 AM with no formal action taken. The agenda also lists Joshua Albin joining an upcoming meeting by Zoom to discuss the comprehensive plan, and the board scheduled or noted several forthcoming work sessions related to planning and ARPA.
What happens next: staff and Mr. Albin are expected to provide an update (via Zoom) at the next scheduled meeting; any formal adoption would follow the Planning and Zoning Board review and additional public notice as required by statute.
