Facilities director outlines courthouse, fire‑rescue and housing milestones in master‑plan update

Travis Parker, Alachua County's facilities director, updated the commission Jan. 27 on the county's master-plan projects. Key milestones included target site pads and mobilization dates for the central energy plant and courthouse site work, anticipated mobilization of the courthouse contractor in June and a target full completion date for the courthouse in March 2028.
Parker also summarized progress on the Fire-Rescue headquarters and EOC relocation (substantial completion targeted in February/March for armory conversion and May for final move), East Tumbling Creek housing work, Forest Edge apartments and other preservation projects across county assets. He said long-lead orders and contingency planning are under way and emphasized lighting, repairs and smaller preservation items across buildings.
Commissioners asked about energy efficiency and landscaping; Parker said mechanical engineers would provide energy calculations and staff are coordinating landscaping to model xeriscaping and low-impact approaches for county demonstration projects.
Parker closed with a list of active capital preservation projects and said a fuller quarterly update will be available to the board and public.
