Chairman Charles Coffey called the Chattahoochee County Commission to order at 9:00 a.m. on Jan. 6. The commission voted unanimously to appoint Coffey as chairman and Commissioner Timothy Biddle as vice chairman. The board then unanimously approved minutes from Dec. 2 (regular and executive session) and Dec. 22 (work session and executive session).
The commission reviewed presentations and packet materials related to pending grant work and engineering proposals. Commissioners voted unanimously to designate Barge Design as the engineer for the county sewer grant and EMC Engineering as engineer for the SCRC SEID grant; the River Valley Regional Commission technical contract for zoning renewal was also approved.
Mr. Sullivan of Southern Link demonstrated two public‑safety radio models and discussed trade‑offs including coverage and cost; the sheriff and Chief Deputy Williamson were present for the demonstration. Commissioners expressed support for improving communications equipment but raised concerns about funding and interoperability. Commissioner Jason Frost moved to table the radio upgrade until staff provides a revised quote and a called meeting can consider funding and options; the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioners also discussed county‑vehicle procedures and raised questions about how new vehicles are inspected, insured and assigned. Commissioner Frost moved to table a policy change until a staff draft is ready for the work session. The board adjourned at 9:56 a.m.
