The Community and Economic Development Committee approved a substitute resolution formalizing a partnership between the city and Milwaukee Succeeds to improve collaboration with youth‑serving organizations and amplify youth voice in city decision‑making.
Clifton Crump, policy and administration director for Common Council President Perez, summarized the goals: create or use existing partnership structures to engage local government officials, community and faith leaders, families and youth; strengthen data capacity to document needs and assess program effectiveness; and develop policy recommendations to improve outcomes for underrepresented youth. "President Perez is committed to creating a pathway to these many appointments," Crump said.
Milwaukee Succeeds representatives described an 18‑month city accelerator and a youth leadership academy they have run, noting past work that placed young people on nonprofit boards and trained cohorts of youth‑serving agencies. Committee members asked how many youth would be served and whether youth would be compensated; Milwaukee Succeeds said participant counts were not yet set and emphasized infrastructure and best‑practice sharing across peer cities.
The committee approved the substitute resolution by voice and asked that the EAC (Emerging Achievement Council) consider the initiative as an advisory body and that staff provide further information about numbers served and how youth will be involved in committees and task forces.
