Grand Avenue streetscape draft draws community input; board leaves video-gaming rules unchanged

Consultant Teska and Village staff presented a summary of public feedback on draft designs for the Grand Avenue streetscape at the Jan. 27 Lindenhurst Village Board meeting and announced a second open house on Feb. 24, 2025 from 5:00–6:45 p.m.

Village Administrator Clay Johnson said the first open house took place before the meeting to gather input on corridor plans and architectural recommendations. Teska summarized the community feedback and outlined how that input will inform refinements to the draft plan ahead of the next open house. Staff publicly thanked residents, business owners and local leaders who contributed thoughts, including Anita Archambeau (Economic Development Specialist), Karleen Long (Assistant to the Village Administrator), Kevin Klahs (Director of Operations), David Mohr (Lindenhurst Park District executive director), Mick Jacobsen (Lake Villa District Library executive director), Plan Commission Chairman Andrew Aswad, local business representatives from 3 Legged Coffee Brewery and Grand Avenue residents.

Separately, Trustees revisited a November 2024 suggestion to review village video-gaming regulations to determine what constitutes a 'video gaming café.' After discussion the Board expressed consensus to retain the current regulation language and did not adopt any changes at the meeting.

Assistant to the Village Administrator Karleen Long also announced the first Lindenhurst Restaurant Week, set for Feb. 10–16, 2025, as an upcoming community event. The Board will consider consultant recommendations and additional public input before advancing final design decisions for the Grand Avenue corridor.
