Lindenhurst board appoints Commander Eric Senica acting police chief; approves $335,212.75 in bills

The Village of Lindenhurst Board on Jan. 27 appointed Commander Eric Senica as acting chief of police through April 30, 2025, or until a permanent chief is named, and approved the second set of January bills totaling $335,212.75.
Mayor Dominic Marturano presented the recommendation to appoint Commander Senica to provide leadership after Police Chief Tom Jones’s upcoming retirement on Jan. 31, 2025. The Board heard that Senica has 26 years with the Lindenhurst Police Department, served as a part-time Lake County Forest Preserve Police Officer, and was an adjunct instructor at McHenry County College from 2006–2019. The Board was also informed that Senica holds a B.S. in Individual Studies with an emphasis in criminal justice from Columbia College and an M.A. in Management from Webster University, and is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.
Trustee Ron Grace moved to approve the appointment, Trustee Dawn Suchy seconded, and the motion carried on roll call with Trustees Pat Dickson, Pat Dunham, Patty Chybowski, Dawn Suchy, Heath Rosten and Ron Grace recorded as voting yes and zero nays. The appointment includes a 10% salary increase during the temporary assignment.
Earlier in the meeting the Board approved the minutes from its Jan. 13, 2025 meeting (motion by Trustee Ron Grace; second by Trustee Patty Chybowski) by voice vote (5 ayes, 0 nays, 1 abstention) and approved the second set of January bills totaling $335,212.75 on roll call (6 ayes, 0 nays). The bills covered invoices due on or before Jan. 27, 2025.
The Board also took time to recognize Chief Tom Jones for his 10 years as police chief. Chief Jones thanked staff, residents and the Board; Mayor Marturano presented him with a plaque acknowledging his service and retirement effective Jan. 31, 2025.
The Board moved into executive session later in the meeting to review prior executive session minutes under 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(21), reconvened at 8:19 p.m., and adjourned the regular meeting at 8:20 p.m.
