Robert Dowdell, who the sponsor identified as overseeing the program, told the committee the on-city sites run for eight weeks — June 8 through July 31 — and that “last year, we served approximately 46,000 meals, breakfast and lunch, throughout the community.”
The ordinance is presented annually as the framework for contracting and site oversight. Councilwoman Umobia praised the program’s role in feeding children during a difficult economic period and asked to be added to the legislation as a sponsor. Committee members also asked staff to share the list of school and community-center sites for the program.
Committee members moved the item to the consent agenda and voted in favor; the ordinance will go forward to the full council on the consent calendar.
