Council honors teachers during Teacher Appreciation Day

The Common Council recessed into a committee of the whole to honor local teachers as part of Teacher Appreciation Day and the forthcoming Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4–8).
Alderwoman Taylor opened the program, speaking of her two decades as a teacher and the unpaid hours educators contribute. Taylor introduced honorees nominated by aldermen from multiple districts; the clerk read a list of teachers recognized, including Emily Moore, Randy Owens, Tranette Page, Ingrid Walker Henry and others. Each honoree was presented with a plaque and a city gift bag.
The chamber applauded the teachers; several members thanked colleagues for participating in the recognition.

This recognition was ceremonial; members and staff encouraged community participation in Teacher Appreciation Week events and continued outreach to schools.
