Committee backs $2.1 million amendment to TID 60 for intermodal station-area street and traffic work

Milwaukee city development staff told the zoning and development committee on April 14 that a second amendment to Tax Incremental District 60 will add roughly $2.1 million for targeted street, paving and traffic-calming projects near the Intermodal passenger station.
Lori Lutzka of the Department of City Development said past TID actions funded the station's three-story galleria and other improvements; the current amendment focuses on high-impact paving on West Saint Paul Avenue (13th–16th Street), traffic calming between 5th and 16th, bikeway improvements on West Michigan (8th–16th) and calming on West Canal. "Today's amendment includes $2,100,000 in public improvements," Lutzka said, adding administrative and prior donations to Century City (TID 74) have been part of the TID's history.
Kevin Muse, city engineer, answered questions about design and whether the projects would require substantial parking removal, saying no design is locked and staff will coordinate designs with aldermen. Lutzka said the TID will be able to pay off by around 2031 and could be extended to support housing.
The committee moved to recommend adoption; no objections were recorded and the matter will be forwarded to the full council.
