Parks master plan near final, Teen Summit draws 1,000 registrations in two hours

Amy Popovich, deputy chief administrative officer, updated the Education and Human Services Committee on the Parks and Recreation master plan and youth engagement work.
Popovich said the 90% draft was posted Dec. 19, that the team has held eight community meetings with about 254 in‑person attendees, and that the online draft was reviewed by about 1,600 people who submitted 170 comments. She said the review period closed March 6 and the team expects to finalize the draft by April 15 before starting the legislative process in late May or early June.
Popovich also reported high demand for the Teen Summit: "We had 1000 teens register in 2 hours," she said, and invited council members to attend and to contact staff (Jackie Hale) about volunteer opportunities. She tied the summit to ongoing youth work such as the youth council and programs overseen by the Office of Community Wealth Building.
The committee received the updates; no formal action on the master plan was taken at the meeting. The presentation will move into the legislative review phase in late spring.
