Weatherford council approves $237,500 change order for Kirkpatrick Drive Phase 2; completion extended 15 days

Director of Public Works Matt Ledpah said the contractor discovered greater excavation quantities during field verification and agreed to honor the original unit price ($19 per cubic yard) for the additional work. Ledpah told the council the change order increases the contract amount to $2,248,448 and revises the contract to 285 days; he said the total remains under the original estimated construction cost and that the project is funded through the TERS program.
A council member asked whether additional fill material could be repurposed for another city project to save hauling costs. Ledpah said suitable material could potentially be used on other projects, such as the new fire station, depending on suitability and distance. The council moved and seconded the change order and voted to approve the amendment.
The procurement record in the meeting packet lists Gilco Contracting and the original award authorizations; the change order was approved at the meeting and staff noted a modest schedule shift, with completion now expected in January 2027 under the revised contract calendar.
