Assistant Chief Watts told the commission he had worked with legal counsel to align the department policy with the town's current policy and to differentiate treatment for civilian and sworn employees. "I've worked with legal counsel on this and we've reviewed it a couple of times back and forth," he said, adding the goal was to ensure best practices and proper care for employees injured on duty.
A motion to approve the revised leave-benefits policy was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The commission recorded the revision date and indicated staff will implement the policy changes in department practice.
No fiscal details tied to the policy change were discussed at the meeting; commissioners heard the assistant chief's summary and voted to adopt the revision.
