The Valparaiso City Board of Works approved multiple land- and street-related items, including a retroactive approval of a railroad crossing closure on Washington Street, a requested closure on Hayes Leonard Road for water-service installation, acceptance of a right-of-way dedication, and final plat approval for the replat of Block 2 (the Banta Center).
Engineering staff (Max) reported the railroad closed Washington Street near the police station starting Wednesday the 11th and completed temporary work; final paving will occur in summer when temperatures permit, likely requiring a one- or two-day closure for permanent repairs. The board approved a retroactive closure to regularize the work.
Mr. Laird presented a request from Golf Inc. to close approximately 430 feet of Hayes Leonard Road north of US 30 to install a water service for a new Vail School building. Staff said Golf Inc. intends to complete work after asphalt plants open in spring so the road can be immediately repaired and paved; the engineering department recommended approval and the board granted the closure.
The board also accepted a deed of dedication described in the meeting packet and approved the final plat for the replat of Block 2 (the Banta Center), noting signatures on the plat would be completed after the meeting.
Finally, the board approved all listed street and sidewalk closures for upcoming events after staff confirmed departmental reviews.
