Engineering staff told the board that the planned two-month arterial closure of Calumet Avenue (previously noted as starting on or about March 1) has been moved to on or about April 1 after further coordination with the contractor; the city will post signage in advance. Chair moved to approve the closure and the motion carried.
Separately, Mr. Laird explained Porter County’s request for a one-day full closure of Joliet Road at Lincoln Way to allow safe access for bridge guardrail repairs instead of a lane restriction; engineering recommended approval. The board voted to approve that closure as well.
Board members emphasized advance public notice so motorists and nearby residents are informed. Staff said they will coordinate signage and scheduling with contractors and the county.
