Valparaiso board authorizes bids for 2026 Community Crossings and stormwater projects

The Valparaiso City Board of Works authorized the engineering department to advertise construction bids for two capital effort streams: the 2026 Community Crossings improvement project and a separate stormwater improvement package for Lowest Drive, Central Avenue and Evergreen Drive.
Danielle (engineering staff) told the board staff reviewed selected streets and attached recommended improvements and cost estimates; the estimates will be posted for public review before bid opening at the next meeting (March 27). The Community Crossings program is a state grant opportunity that staff said appears to be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible projects.
The mayor moved to authorize solicitation of bids for both the Community Crossings project and the stormwater improvements; board members seconded the motions and approved them by voice vote.
Staff will post the packet materials and estimates publicly and proceed with advertised solicitations per the city's procurement schedule.
