Summary
Architects and construction managers told the board the new high school is roughly halfway through construction, with area finishes underway, Applewood and Kidder additions progressing and a target opening for the 2027–28 school year; enclosure and a community tour are planned for fall.
At the April 21 meeting the board received a detailed construction update on the new Brunswick High School and related campus work from Scott Olliman of TDA (architect/project manager) and project oversight staff from Hammond.
Scott Olliman told the board the high school project is "about halfway through construction" and that the team has been working to stay on schedule and on budget. He said the district is targeting the 2027–28 school year for building occupancy. The presentation included progress photos and a breakdown of work: foundations and site work for Applewood and Kidder elementary additions, occupancy of a new maintenance building and a Board of Education office building (each about 13,000 square feet), and interior finish work underway in multiple high‑school areas.
Construction managers said foundations at Applewood are in and work is beginning at Kidder; the Applewood classrooms are designed to match existing classroom flexibility and the site’s parent drop‑off and parking improvements are in progress. Presenters described mock-up rooms and a polyaspartic flooring test in the academic wing’s finished areas, noting the mock-up held up under casework testing.
Project oversight reported peak on-site manpower of about 140 and more than 450 workers having been on site to date. The team said the auditorium/PAC remains to be finished but structural shell and much of the academic wing are taking shape. As the building enclosure progresses, the project team plans a large community tour this fall (targeting September or October, timing to be determined) and a ribbon-cutting roughly 13 months from the meeting, contingent on schedule and weather.
During Q&A the board asked about brickwork timing; presenters explained the brick façade is currently hidden by scaffolding and that visible brickwork on the building face will begin to appear in the coming weeks as scaffold work advances. Board members requested another tour for trustees and staff.
Presenters also emphasized continued community engagement (student tours, beam signings, social media updates and construction-camera access on the district’s website) as the project reaches enclosure and interior-finishes milestones.
The board thanked the project team for the update and moved on to routine business.
