Summary
At its April 21 meeting the Brunswick Board of Education recognized Cub Scouts earning the Arrow of Light and celebrated multiple student-athletes for state qualifications, school records and leadership work through SALT and mental-performance programs.
At the April 21 regular meeting of the Brunswick Board of Education, the board recognized local students for scouting and athletic achievements and heard student presentations on leadership and mental-performance programs.
Mrs. Armentrout (presenter) opened special recognitions by naming Arrow of Light recipients Brian Antoon, Liliana Harwood, Ariana Lance, Daniel Pascal and Daniel Zimmerman, calling the award "a milestone that marks a young person's career in character, leadership, service, and perseverance." The presenter noted additional scouts were recognized as absent.
The board then heard athletic recognitions from the athletic director, who highlighted senior wrestler Marissa McCartan (state podium finishes and a 100th career win), diver Alex Burns (two-time state qualifier and multiple school records) and senior basketball player Trey Drexler (new school scoring records and a Division I scholarship to Indiana University Indianapolis).
Student leaders from Brunswick High School described leadership and mental-performance programs. Noah Sarovi, a student involved with swim and track, summarized the Student Athletic Leadership Team (SALT) and the district’s Sharpen Skills mental-performance program, saying SALT "teaches the correct way to lead" and that Sharpen Skills helps athletes manage stress before competition. Junior Adeline Sheets spoke about youth inclusion and the district’s youth‑camp programs, and senior student-athletes Brandon Miles and Eli Nichols emphasized trust, adaptability and how athletic leadership skills transfer to college and careers. Nichols said adaptability requires "putting yourself and your teammates in the best position to succeed" and argued those lessons apply in the classroom and beyond.
Board members thanked students and families for attending and noted the presentations illustrate the district’s focus on character development alongside competitive success.
The meeting moved next to a construction update on the new high school and related campus projects.
