Board authorizes purchase of deputy chief vehicle not to exceed $77,132

Chief Majors reported the department rotates staff vehicles through frontline service for about 10 years and then to utility status before auctioning. Fire Marshal Pell led procurement and recommended a Chevrolet Tahoe from Berger Chevrolet as the replacement deputy chief vehicle. The board authorized the purchase, not to exceed $77,132.29, noting the department will rotate the current deputy chief vehicle to inspector status and auction an older utility vehicle in due course.
Chief Majors reminded the board of NFPA recommendations for frontline apparatus service life and said the department is mindful of maintenance and replacement cycles. The motion to purchase the vehicle passed by roll call.
The township indicated the purchase is tax-exempt and part of the department’s vehicle replacement plan.
