Mayor Winget presented a life‑saving proclamation Dec. 2 recognizing six members of Explorer Post 1—Scott Hart, Trey Ernst, Derek Parent, Chloe Groves, Jackson Parent and Leah Kloiber—for rescuing two people from a fast‑moving section of the Current River on June 11, 2025.
The proclamation, read by the mayor during the council's regular meeting, noted the group’s training and quick action: the rescuers brought the capsized canoe victims to shore, provided immediate emergency care and warned oncoming river users of hazards. “These members of Explorer Post 1 should receive the highest honors and recognition for their brave emergency actions and gratitude for their selfless dedication to others,” the mayor said while presenting individual certificates.
State Representative Rita Bowers attended and read a certificate of achievement for Trey Ernst on behalf of the Texas House of Representatives. “Your response reflects the very best of this community and the very best of Texas,” Bowers said, praising the team’s leadership and courage.
The city also presented an overall proclamation recognizing Explorer Post 1’s service, citing the Post’s role within the Rowlett Citizen Corps Council and the hundreds of volunteer hours youth members contribute annually. Honorees came forward to receive individual certificates and to be photographed with council members and the representative.
The award ceremony was held at the start of the council meeting and concluded before the evening’s business agenda proceeded.
