The Door County Board approved a transfer of up to $32,000 from the county’s general contingency reserve to fund targeted security improvements for county facilities.
Supervisor Miller moved Resolution 2026-31, which the board approved on a recorded two-thirds vote of 19–0. County staff said the upgrades include a new access-control controller to allow isolated building lockdowns instead of system-wide lockdowns, mapping tools to help emergency responders locate incidents inside buildings, and an access-management improvement for a specific door at the justice center. County Administrator Ken said the system upgrade would let officials place only the affected building into lockdown rather than locking all county facilities.
Finance staff confirmed the transfer will come from a contingency account that carries forward year to year; the resolution caps the expenditure at $32,000 and specifies staff will only spend what is needed. The board approved the transfer after brief questions from supervisors and a confirmation that the measure meets the two-thirds vote requirement.
The county will report procurement specifics to the appropriate oversight committee and return to the board if costs exceed the authorization.
