URPA executive director Leanne Powell and president-elect Janelle Payne described the association's awards program and praised West Valley City for programs aligned with the profession's pillars of health and wellness, conservation and stewardship, and recreation for all. Powell said the association received more than 90 submissions across 11 categories this year and highlighted West Valley's leadership in adaptive and adult programming.
Janelle Payne presented an award in the outstanding adaptive-program category to "Ability in Motion," praising staff focus on participant-driven planning. A staff member (identified as Tasha in remarks) and other program leaders received recognition. Payne also presented a volunteer award to Luz, who said she teaches cardio and strength training and expressed appreciation for the nomination and the program's impact on her students.
The mayor and council thanked the URPA representatives and West Valley parks staff for their leadership, noting that the programs bring measurable benefits to participants and set an example for other cities in the state.
