Rowlett council signs onto opioid 'remnant' settlement and approves consent items

At its April 7 meeting, the Rowlett City Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the interim city manager to execute the combined subdivision participation and release for a group of six remnant opioid distributors as part of broader opioid settlements. The city attorney said the total settlement pool is about $97 million and that Rowlett’s initial share would be "right under $5,000." Council member Gibbs moved to adopt the resolution and the motion passed unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting the council approved the consent agenda in a single motion, endorsing items that included purchase approvals for meter repair and replacement services, two fire pumper trucks, dump trucks for public works, police and public-works vehicles, and emergency construction and odor-control agreements. Council member Bridal moved the consent agenda and the council carried it unanimously.
The opioid settlement participation authorizes staff to submit required forms to the National Settlement Administrator for these remnant distributors; staff noted the amount is modest but still helpful for local abatement and treatment efforts.
The consent agenda items authorized procurement and emergency-response contracts needed for operations and infrastructure maintenance.
